Girls Future Reign
SAm Mueller
CoachSam’s volleyball journey began at just 9 years old, and she continued playing through middle school and high school. Primarily a middle, Sam also stepped into outside hitter and setter roles when her teams needed her. For Sam, volleyball has always been about more than the sport itself—it’s the teamwork, sportsmanship, and relationships that made her love the game.
Sam is also a former Oly Reign athlete, making her return to the club as a coach even more special! After finishing her playing career, she had the opportunity to coach alongside Jason Haws as an assistant with one of our 12U teams. She quickly discovered a new way to love volleyball from the sidelines and is excited to be back coaching with the Reign.
Sam’s coaching philosophy is “Don’t just say it, show it.” She believes athletes often need to see the action behind an instruction for it to truly click. Her approach is rooted in support and encouragement, helping athletes break through barriers rather than breaking them down. She also places an emphasis on the connection between the mind and body and helping young athletes understand how much their mindset can impact their performance.
What Sam loves most about Oly Reign:
“THE PEOPLE! And the high level of service ORVBC provides to athletes. It was the same when I was playing!”
Outside of volleyball, Sam enjoys showing houses, interior design, going on walks, building things, and fishing with her dad.
Aaron Riddell
CoachCoach Aaron brings an impressive 15 years of coaching experience to our youngest athletes. Throughout his coaching career, he has worked with nearly every club age group, coached for three different volleyball clubs and three high school programs, and spent three years coaching with the YMCA. His teams have made multiple appearances at USAV Nationals and the Washington State High School Tournament, including a state championship in 2017.
Aaron began playing volleyball in college in 2008 and hasn’t stopped since! His indoor experience includes playing both libero and outside hitter, while today he spends most of his time playing beach and grass doubles, along with some indoor 4s. Beach volleyball is where Aaron truly fell in love with the game and remains his favorite way to play.
Aaron’s coaching philosophy starts with the belief that relationships are at the center of team sports. He emphasizes simple, repeatable movements, attention to detail, and creating a clear focus for athletes. He believes coaches should demonstrate whenever possible, avoid overloading athletes with instruction, and never overlook the fundamentals—especially serving and passing. Above all, Aaron believes consistent growth adds up: if we can get just 1% better every day, we’re going to be great.
What Aaron loves most about Oly Reign:
“I love that we are always looking for ways to improve our processes, our communication, the skills we teach and the way we teach them. It’s exactly the same thing we ask of our players—start where you are and keep getting better.”
Outside of volleyball, Aaron loves hiking and climbing—whether it’s rock, ice, or mountains—as well as traveling and spending time with his wife and daughter.
